I am raising funds for the LGBT Network's program for HIV/AIDs. Unfortunately, New York has the highest number of newly diagnosed cases of HIV in the United States and 20% of HIV+ people are unaware that they are infected. Stigma and discrimination are still active concerns that keep these individuals from seeking care and support, with 1 in 8 HIV+ individuals being denied health services due to discrimination.The LGBTQ community is particularly impacted by this unfair treatment. It is often assumed that casual sex, drug use and other behaviors are associated with being HIV+, while this isn't necessarily the case. This misinformation surprisingly comes from friends, family and even medical professionals.
The LGBT Network offers judgement free, discreet services that surpass the usual prevention, testing and support programs. They offer mobile phlebotomists, free HIV/STD testing, PrEP/PEP education and interventions for those at risk. Additionally, they provide mental health programs, substance abuse services, transportation, appointment accompaniment, assistance in finding medical providers and enrolling in health insurance. They are dedicated to overcoming stigma, discrimination and any barriers to prevention and care. With your donation, you can support the LGBT Network's commitment to offer desperately needed services and help provide HIV+ individuals with the care and support they need to live long and healthy lives.
